Tepuis

The so called "Tepuis" are a group of table mountains in the south of Venezuela. They belong to one of the earth's oldest geologic formations, the "Guayana Shield". As the climate on their plateaus differs so much from the climate of the surrounding areas the flora and fauna on the plateaus got isolated and as a consequence many of the tepuis developed their own species in a kind of microevolution.

Aparaman Tepui - view from the air The typical shape of a Tepui is nicely visible. However Aparaman has the roughest surface of all Tepuis. It's almost impossible to cross a distance of a few hundred meters.
